The Fog Of War
Academy Award Winner - Best Documentary Feature 2003
Former Secretary of Defense, under President Kennedy and President Johnson, Robert S. McNamara was one of the most controversial and influential political figures of the 20th century. Now - for the first time ever - he sits down one-on-one with acclaimed director Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, Mr. Death) to offer a candid and intimate journey through some of the most seminal events in contemporary American history. As leader of the world's most powerful military force during this nation's most volatile period in recent years, McNamara offers new and often surprising insights into the 1945 bombing of Tokyo, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the effects of the Vietnam War. Featuring newly released Oval Office recorded conversations with Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, The Fog of War received critical praise for its up-close and personal insider perspective. See the film that Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times) hailed as "a masterpiece!"

Maybe I expected too much and that is why I found this film rathing boring. It is described as offering new and surprising insights into the wars of the recent past but I wasn't surprised or enlightened by anything he said. The actual transcripts and real footage and tape was definitely a plus.Rules to live by - FlashWWest
McNamara, for all his faults, shares his wisdom. Absolutely riveting. Touching, maddening and fascinating until the last word. Multiple viewings are a must.
How can you not take all of the lessons he learned on the most dangerous stage and apply them, in however small a way, to your life.
Empathize with your enemy ...A piece of living history! - Cricri7
Robert McNamara is part of history. He served under John F. Kennedy and was instrumental in the Vietnam war but this documentary does not only talk about this but also about the life he led before Kennedy. He served in the 2nd world war and came of age during the Great Depression. His stories are very interesting to hear but I don't think they are for everyone. If you don't like history, you won't be interested in this documentary.
By the way, he was 86 years old when he filmed the documentary and he is still alive and kicking at 93!
