The Company
Robert Altman directs the musical drama The Company from an original story by actress Neve Campbell, based on her own experiences with The National Ballet of Canada. At the center of the ensemble cast is the young dancer Ry, a rising star with the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. She struggles with the demands of being a dancer while supporting herself as a waitress and starting up a romance with Josh (James Franco). Meanwhile, the ballet company director, Alberto Antonelli (Malcolm McDowell), manages to balance his own administrative and artistic duties. Campbell does her own dancing in the film and the rest of the company is played by the actual members of the Joffrey Ballet. The Company was shown at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival.

I found this film to be lacking. I would have liked more plot and more development of the characters. There is a lot of scenes of dancing, which is not surprising and I especially liked the beginning dance scene. But overall I can say I was disappointed. 2/5 or 4/10 on IMDB.A great movie about Ballet - Movieguy6
What did other reviewers expect? This is not an action movie, but a movie about ballet and what it takes to produce it. The dance scenes are beautiful, the portrait of the ballet milieu is enticing, and I found plenty of sympathy for the dancers and all that they have to go through to perform their art. If that interests you, you will like this movie, otherwise you should skip it.No plot - good dance - Winefride
As a portrait of a dance company this lacks drama to a surprising degree. I waited in vain to see if there would be some indication of a plot. However, the dance sequences are the redeeming feature. So watch the dances and skip the rest. Fortunately there is an option in the "features" to run just the dances which thereby cuts out the plotless extraneous material.
