Deathwatch
1917. The Western Front. A handful of survivors from Y-Company are utterly lost in enemy territory. They find shelter in an abandoned enemy trench - a claustrophobic maze of blind corners and underground tunnels, overflowing with war dead and infested with rats. It is here the survivors of Y-Company wait to be rescued. But as night draws, nobody comes. They begin to think there is someone...or some THING in the trench with them. One by one the young men of Y-Company die as the unseen stalker terrorizes and preys upon their fear.

The Horrors Of Trench Warfare - newdaysof
This movie accurately portrays all the horrors of WW1 trench warfare: barbed wire, artillery fire and exploding shells, mustard gas that destroy lungs in a matter of seconds, the filth, rats, rotting corpses, the mud, the rain, the cold, the fear, the sickness and death. Need I say more? That's what this movie is all about, an entire hour and forty minutes. Not a pleasant way to spend an evening.
Of course, it is important for us to know about the horrors of trench war so it won't be repeated. But the human race is doomed to engage in wars forever. There is no hope. Oh, and by the way, if trench war isn't bad enough, this movie has ghosts and unknown phantoms that plague our helpless soldiers. Oh, the sheer horror of it all. After watching this movie you will need to get outside and get a breath of fresh air and sunshine, since this movie contains none.Really Good - JuicyFruit
I don't know what the other reviewers are on about, I really liked this film- sure it's not a wholly original concept, but it's a good, different version, it's a quality production, the acting is good and so what if it's a little predictable near the end- show me more than a handful of movies that aren't LOL I'd watch this movie again and certainly recommend it.War movie meets supernatural drama - eoguy
Here’s another shaggy dog tale - a pseudo-horror story on the lines of The Village. Okay, I get it already. War is hell. But there are much better movies that convey this conceit without reducing the horror to quasi-supernatural and sophomoric gimmicks. A Very Long Engagement is one of the best movies recently made about WW1. I wanted DEATHWATCH to be a true horror movie with a supernatural presence in the trenches. Instead we get this mish-mash of hallucinations and "psychological horror" that blends all kinds of gimmicky movies of the past (Sixth Sense and The Others most notably) in a war setting. Problem is I figured it out the early on in the film when one soldier says, "Gas! Gas! Get your masks out!" And most viewers will as well. So no surprises at all here. And no real scares either. Plus the lighting was so dreadful that you could barely tell what was going on in crucial scenes. I like Andy Serkis but he's a ridiculous ham in this movie and I couldn't wait for him to get knocked off. He's surrounded by much more credible and interesting younger actors. Hugo Speer lends much needed gravitas to all the hysteria. [A Shaggy dog tale, by the way, is a long drawn out joke that ends with a really bad pun or absurd punchline that makes everything that preceded it pointless.]
