Wholesome Zombie Action - icedevilz2
Some good zombie killing action in this one. These are 28 Days Later style zombies, rather than original Dawn of the Dead style zombies. Still the action is good and the plot is decent (although you'd think they'd have figured out the bite bit earlier). The biggest problem is that characters don't get a lot of screen time, so development seems rushed/forced. This makes some decisions made seem dubious/just plain stupid. Also the acting essentially comes down to a lot of frantic screaming, hacking and shooting. This is much more of a 'gore rollercoaster' than the original. Nevertheless, a satisfying watch for anyone looking for a little horror/suspense/zombie killing fun.Can you call this Dawn of the Dead? - M.O.D
I am a movie buff. I loves me my horror films. My favorite of all time being George Romero's Dawn of the Dead. It's fun to watch the world turn to absolute chaos. When this "re-imagining" was released I was skeptical. Could it even compare to the original? The answer is no. It can't. But that is the beauty of a "re-imagining" It doesn't have to. This film felt fresh and ferocious. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and had alot of kicks with the sweet gorefest that ensued. It was alot of fun and it seemed as though the cast had a good time making it. I loved it and would recommed this to any horror fan, not horror snob! Note: I didn't just love it because it was my first date movie with my wife. It was genuinely good!A Fun Ride - Filmgal
Dawn of the Dead is surprisingly good! I was pleasantly surprised by what I thought would be a throwaway horror film, but instead was entertained by the intelligence and action of the film.
Dawn of the Dead revisits the classic film with a new band of survivors including Sarah Polley and Ving Rhames. When this California town (shot in Toronto) wakes up to find out that it’s citizens have turned into flesh-eating zombies, the survivors barricade themselves in the local mall and hatch a plan of survival. Part social experiment, the film focuses on how a diverse group of people attempt to stay alive and undergo a contest of “survival of the fittest” where the enemy is not only the flesh-eating zombies, but also their fellow survivors.
The cast is great- better than your usual B-Horror film cast with Jake Weber and Polley giving good performances. As can be expected, there is a lot of blood and guts, especially since this is the director’s cut, but nowhere near the gross-out horror of films like Hostel.
I’d definitely recommend this film for horror fans or fans of the original film. Similar to 28 Days Later in terms of intelligence, tone, and plot, fans of that film will also enjoy this one.
