Winged Migration
Rolling Stone raved that WINGED MIGRATION, the critically acclaimed, awe-inspiring documentary, is "A movie miracle! It soars! You feel privileged!"
Witness as five film crews follow a rich variety of bird migrations through 40 countries and each of the seven continents. With teams totaling more than 450 people, 17 pilots, and 14 cinematographers used planes, gliders, helicopters and balloons to fly alongside, above, below, and in front of their subjects. The result is a film of staggering beauty that Entertainment Weekly hailed as "Mesmerizing!" and the Los Angeles Times applauded as "Breathtaking! As lofty as it is exhilarating!"
Open your eyes to the wonders of the natural world as you fly along with the world's most gorgeous birds through areas as remote as the Arctic and the Amazon and as populated as Paris and New York City. See why USA Today found it to be "one of the most beautiful films to come out this year!"

I have to give the creators of this film credit where it's due. Some of the shots are really breath taking. It really made me wonder how they were ever able to capture them and that aspect of the film was very impressive. Overall, however, I couldn't wait for this thing to end. It was just some birds flying, and then some other birds flying, and then some more birds flying. It bored me to tears.Beautifully Filmed But Not a Documentary - E
The filmmakers do not claim this is a documentary, but more of a natural adventure. This film is relies on birds raised by humans and then shipped to pre-chosen locales to follow predetermined storyboards. This is beautifully filmed - I cannot recall ever seeing birds so up close in flight which was stunning.
I do not find anything misleading per se about the film - facts are provided about the migration paths and distance. Because the birds were "humanized" in order to be followed so closely for filming is why I think the reviewer Yop gave this one star. It is up to the individual viewer to decide how they feel about this. Another reviewer was bothered by the hunting scenes; however, I thought it was realistic to include this because I live in a bird hunting area - 6 Canada Geese can be shot per day per hunter. This film was not as good as March of Penquins (a MUST SEE), but still a visually beautiful film and for viewers who do not care about the birds being manipulated.Winged Migration - TwoBoggySwampers
After seeing another review by "Yon" (look through the reviews for title "Winged Perversion" with only one star), I am a little taken aback by the perspective given and truly hope that this is not fact. If so, it would be very disappointing to me and it would put this film into a whole other category that I would not be particularly fond of.
With the above said, and going on what bit of knowledge I do have of the documentary and how it was actually made, I found it to be absolutely breathtaking, stunning, and mesmerizing all at the same time. It was beautifully filmed and the accompanying music was used in such a way that it wasn't overbearing, but rather quite enhancing. This is especially so when the birds were dancing and acting silly - the choreography was perfectly timed with their movements and in some instances was really very funny. The film is not only visually amazing, but is also a great learning experience. It showcases many different types of migrating birds. We discover when they migrate, how far they migrate (some fly tens of thousands of miles twice a year!), where they migrate to and from, what they do along the way, and what they do when they get to where it is that they're going. I found this to be a well rounded documentary and would recommend it to all nature lovers.
