Laws of Attraction has all the street cred of Glamor Magazine, and all the edge of Larry King. Which, incidentally, are two things the target audience would love. What's perfect is that the movie uses manic farce to crack the self-possession that usually keeps her so remote from us.formulaic rom com - outlander78
Julianne Moore has the “straight” role in this movie, while Pierce Brosnan delivers most of the laughs. This is a very standard romantic comedy, following the formula of lovers meeting, falling out, then getting back together, presumably for good. The only real deviation is that they keep getting together (starting very early in the film) and falling apart – this repeats several times before they really settle down.
I liked it this movie, but wouldn't watch it twice, which is unfortunate as I paid full retail price for it. If you like romantic comedies and are looking for something reliable, Laws of Attraction should fit the bill. Yes, that is damning with faint praise. It follows the formula, but with style - thenewguy
In many ways Laws of Attraction is a standard romantic comedy. It follows the typical pattern of an uptight person (Audry) meets a laid-back person (Daniel) and they find themselves on opposite sides of a fight. And, of course, find an attraction for each other.
But the high points of this movie aren't so much in the plot as in the details and the characters. Both actors play their parts beautifully, both characters have interesting quirks. The back and forth between them feel truly playful and fun. Their views on love, marriage and their professions make for interesting dialogue and some touching moments in among the funny ones. This may be one of Ms Moore's best performances and the film, while predictable, really shines in its genre.
