The Red Violin chronicles the journey of a legendary musical instrument -- a violin famous for its unusual reddish hue. Placed on the auction block in modem-day Montreal, after traveling around the globe for over three-hundred years, the violin comes to the attention of expert Charles Moritz who mounts an investigation to authenticate the enigmatic instrument and establish its true worth.Highly Artistic - Zoyamauz
"The Red Violin" is one of my favorite films. The musical score is one of the best I've ever heard and the acting is very fine. What sets this film apart from the rest however, is it's authentic feel.
The tale is simple, as the viewer follows the life of the violin through history, from it's birthplace in Renaissance Italy to the present time. Each time the violin crosses a border the language changes as well, with parts filmed in Italian, German and Mandarin as well as English - no worries, there are subtitles. The journey is a wonderous one as the violin ignites the passions with its presence. A good listener will hear the change in musical pace with every change of culture.
I strongly recommend this film for anyone who deeply values art and music.
Warning: Viewing may cause you to run out and buy the soundtrack, if not your personal copy of the DVD.The Red Violin - Kylie
I'm tyring to remember the first time I saw this film. It immidiatly drew me into the story. The transitions used in the film are just beautiful. It's such a wonderfully orginal story, with so many engaging diffrent settings that are brought about in such a delightfully well though out way. I cannot praise this film enough. It is very rare that I will re-watch a film. This one I must have seen 10 times now. The film unveiled the beauty of its subject so well that it actually inspired me to start playing the violin. The characters are wonderfull and endearing, the interweaving of the stories are masterfull, the film is just a brilliant and beautiful piece of work. It's a story of passion and legacy, drama and life. And extra treat; you couldn't ask for a better surprise ending.
