Side A = Awesome. Side B = Mediocre - Manuel
Side A: A nice collection of music videos that made Spike Jonze a household name well before Being John Malkovich. Such "hits" as Praise You, Sabotage and Buddy Holly are all there, but it's his lesser known work that really makes this DVD worthwhile. Did you know that Notorious B.I.G.'s Sky's the Limit was directed by him? Did you know that the guy in that Wax video was really on fire? And look! It's Sofia Coppola in the Chemical Brothers' Elektrobank! The commentaries were pretty weak though. There is nothing by Jonze himself, and the band members and actors don't offer much insight (other than that Rivers Cuomo is a pretentious poser, but we already knew that).
Side B: A bunch of shorts and documentaries (including a mockumentary about the Torrance Community Dance Group of the Praise You fame, starring Jonze as "Richard Koufey"), but nothing remarkable, really. The most amusing offering here was his "audition tape" for Rockafella Skank, which was a precursor to Praise You.Keeping Up With The Jonze's Can Be Confusing - TheShamus
In some households, the name "Spike Jonze" is a household name. For the uninitiated, we are speaking of "Spike Jonze" (real name "Adam Spiegel") and not "Spike Jones" (a popular comedic musician from the Big Band Era).
Spike Jonze started directing music videos in the early 1990's. He quickly became known as one of the best music video directors of all time with videos like, "Buddy Holly" and "Praise You". Jonze continued his success with original films such as "Adaptation" and "Being John Malkovich".
In this DVD collection, you get a selection of just over a dozen select songs with some of Jonze best known work. Side A of the DVD contains multiple commentaries for each video. Side B contains some extra "documentary" type footage. Much of this was used by outlets such as MTV.
I personally, enjoyed the music of the bands Jonze works with, and this is a huge bonus. Even if you are not a fan of the music, there is a good selection of works from this iconic director.
If you like this music or Jonze artistry, this is a DVD worth owning. A great value.

Well worth your time... So much more than conventional music videos, Spike Jonze has produced short films with rare aesthetic depth that happen to be built around songs. A true pioneer, he sets a high standard for future music video directors. Future directors will point back to this collection as a significant influence. I only wish that more of his videos had regular screen time.
