The Big Empty
The Middle Of Nowhere Is A Funny Place To Find Yourself.
Acclaimed writer/director Jon Favreau (Elf) stars as a struggling actor about to enter a weirdly comic twilight zone. After agreeing to deliver a mysterious suitcase to a remote desert truck stop in exchange for $25K, John Person (Favreau) finds himself trapped in a bizarre world of unusual characters. Is the whole town mad, or are the Looney locals the only sane things about this strange parallel universe called The Big Empty?

Fun little movie - KeithTalent
Picked this up based on a friend's recommendation and it is indeed an enjoyable little movie. Part crime thriller, part dark comedy, and maybe a small part sci-fi, with great performances from Jon Favreau and Rachael Leigh Cook and strong supporting performances from most everyone else (I have a thing for Joey Lauren Adams, always have, so I was happy to see her pop up in this). There were a couple of parts I did not really enjoy, but I suppose they were necessary to move the story along; maybe it had more to do with one of the actors thaty I did not like, in fact it probably was. Aside from that, it's worth 90 minutes of your time if you like your movies a little quirky.BIG fun - to a point - The_Balcony
Before you read my review, be aware that I'm a Jon Favreau fan. If you don't like Jon, don't rent this movie because he's in every scene! I rated this 4 stars because at the end of the movie I came to the conclusion that in spite of the slow plot development, I actually ended up caring about some of characters and enjoyed the movie.
The ensemble cast (Rachael Leigh Cook, Darryl Hannah, Joey Lauren Adams, Sean Bean and Kelsey Grammer) make this movie work. There's enough acting ability there to make a slow movie move a bit quicker, making it much more accessible.
There's enough 'show but don't tell' plot lines in this to keep you interested, but the ultimate outcome is lacking punch. The process of getting there, however, is quite fun.
Worth a look, but don't rush out and make it your number one priority. The big nothing... - crazoid
I was impressed that they went ahead with the alien theme instead of trying to do the usual bad guy or mob type theme. Other than that, this film was a let down. The plot moved slowly, and the characters were overly flawed. Too bad the aliens didn't abduct the whole cast.
