This is a film that you can easily watch over and over. The film is remembered too much for Vaughn’s “money” character, and as a story about the LA club scene and a group of guys out looking for one-night stands. While this serves as an often humourous backdrop, the real story is about dealing with the end of a long-term relationship, realizing that your relationship does not solely define you, and finally how gratifying moving on with your life can be. Hidden within the machismo, martinis and Sega Genesis NHL battles is one of the best and most honest portrayals of the lonely side of bachelorhood. This movie is so 'Money' - funguy
Lot of great one-liners in this movie. I remember playing genesis hockey with my 20 something friends and the conversations were almost verbatim. "Make Gretzky's head bleed."
"No don't man, we're in the playoffs."
Vince Vaughn is great in this movie. Well he truly makes it. "Girls! Don't you always double down on eleven?"
Just about peed myself when he gets up on the table in the diner. Or when they take about six putts each on the green.
Cult Classic
Okay, one more, "Is he clean? If he's clean invite him in."Must see Guy flick - toad
Did your girlfriend force you to sit through The English Patient? It's payback time! Ok, well she's suffered enough through all those James Bond films so let her off the hook. Grab a bunch of your male friends, order some pizza and crack open a beer because this is a must see.
If you enjoyed The "Tao of Steve" or the recent ripoff of this film called "Sideways" then do yourself a favour and see the original.
Jon Favreau wrote the screenplay and stars as the heartbroken loser who has been dumped by his girlfriend and can't get over her. He bonds with a group of unemployed actors who try to snap him out of his funk by taking him to parties, Vegas road trips and to a golf course. Every time Vince Vaughn hooks a willing hottie for Jon, he ends up crying to her her about his broken heart. He gets a lot of sympathy but not much else.
I loved this movie for a myriad of reasons. Firstly it has snappy dialogue. It was filmed during the Swing craze so expect to see a few Frank Sinatra outfits and poodle skirts but it also has surprising twists. I love the infamous answering machine scene (I still cringe when I watch it) and the altercation in the parking lot.
I've yet to see a better character study of twenty something males. You'll spend the whole 90 minutes saying "I know that guy... I know that guy.... I AM that guy"
Let's face it. We've all been Jon Favreau at least once in our lives.
