Mad Dog And Glory
A cop. A mobster. And a woman who'd rather be anywhere but between them.
Two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro teams up with Uma Thurman and Bill Murray in this wildly offbeat, adventure-filled love story that proves when trouble comes, anything goes.
When shy, soft-spoken Chicago detective Wayne "Mad Dog" Dobie (De Niro) inadvertently saves the life of local gangster Frank Milo (Murray), he's the reluctant recipient of an unusual one week "thank you" gift - a beautiful bartender named Glory (Thurman)! Before the week is out, the two have fallen madly in love, making for a murderous showdown with Milo. now Dobie must live up to his ironic nickname or will it be "no guts, no Glory" in this heartwarming comedy.

This might have been more believable had they not made DeNiro a cop. I know not all cops are heros, and a cop can be a shlub too, but I still found it hard to believe that DeNiro would allow Bill Murray's character to just walk all over him.
Murray tells DeNiro who he is, and what he does (big time mafia loan shark). But DeNiro never threatens to arrest him, or do anything to him.
Anything involving police work here is laughable (especially if you're a Law & Order fan).
And I didn't believe the romance for a second. On DeNiro's part, sure, but why would Thurman fall for this loser?
As RPM points out, the role reversal is a little fun, and David Caruso does his tough cop thing well, but it wasn't enough to save this film for me.B+ - RPM-
It's nice to see a film where the actors are in the reverse of the usual roles they typically play. DeNiro plays a wimpish cop and Murray plays a mob-type figure.
DeNiro accepts a gift from Murray for saving his life, little does he know it's a woman!! After falling in love with her, he decides to help liberate her from Murray's clutches setting off a showdown with him.
