Slow, dated, Disney... - nelsonlonigan
If you saw Watcher In The Woods as a kid in the 80s you probably have a very warm memory of the movie. If you're coming in late as an adult, you're probably not going to be too impressed. I remember this film from back in the day, but I don't remember it making much of an impression me. Seeing it again after all these years hasn't changed that detail. Watcher In The Woods is alright, but the pacing is slow. I often found my mind wandering while things were going on. Not a good sign. The alternate endings were interesting though. Disney cut them because they didn't fit with the film's narrative, but long time fans of the film would be surprised to see an extended ending that seems almost pulled from the world of Phantasm. Hard to believe Disney would even consider going in that direction!
Also, as an afterthought, one of the young actresses in the film now stars in the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills! Make sense of that!Deliciously frightening with a PG rating - eyewitness
I love a good scare, a good mystery and the supernatural and this movie does has it all. The Watcher in the Woods is deliciously frightening with a PG rating, ahhh bliss! My dad and I used to watch some scary movies when I was a kid, “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, “The Thing”, etc... and this one was right up my alley. The great thing about The Watcher in the Woods is that it is filmed in such a way that it doesn’t look dated at all. As an adult I still give it top-marks for scaring us with “what might be out there” rather than with blood and violence. Bette Davis is SUPERB-ly chilling. This is unlikely to make it onto most people’s “best movies ever list”, I love it, I own it and I am never selling my copy!Great For The Whole Family! - winniestarla
I watched this movie many times as a child and was very frightened by it. I can't believe this is a Disney movie because it is just plain scary. I recently re-watched it and I love it just as much as I did then. Extremely creepy. Great performance by Bette Davis.
You won't want to look in the mirror after watching this movie, trust me. A timeless classic. Interesting for kids and adults alike. Highly recommended.
