Moral complexities - Chester
This film takes place in a British run prison for British soldiers who have committed crimes. We are introduced to five new prisoners, who would share the same cell, and the officer who runs things. It clear, from the onset, that these five men vary in strength, both physically and mentally, and the purpose of their incarceration is to break them down by having them always at the point of total exhaustion. It is more like a boot camp than a conventional prison. When a tragedy happens to one of the inmates, this movie shows that the men in charge are very easily capable of duplicity.Who are more corrupt? The guards or the men they are guarding?Hearbreaking - Willibrord
The Hill is a study in brutality, set in a British Army prison where thieves, cowards, and malcontents are sent to be "broken down and rebuilt into fighting men" -- chiefly through being made to run up and down an artificial hill until they collapse from exhaustion. Sean Connery plays the NCO who fights the injustices perpetrated by his nemesis, Staff Sgt. Williams (Ian Hendry). The scene where fellow prisoner King (Ossie Davis) flips out is absolutely not to be missed.
