People I Know
For experienced P.R. kingpin Eli Wurman, there's never been a crisis he couldn't fix or a scandal he couldn't handle. But when his top client becomes entangled in a messy situation, and Eli ends up seeing more than he's supposed to, the man who made it his business to know everything suddenly knows too much.

Overcomplicated Plot - Great Acting - LOPI
Not chewing out the scenery this time, Al Pacino plays a subdued Eli Wurman, a burned out publicist who used to handle all kinds of big names but is now down to one client, Cary Launer (Ryan O'Neal) a womanizing actor with political ambitions. These ambitions are threatened when an ex-flame (Kim Basinger) is arrested and Wurman is sent to bail her out. Things get complicated from then on, and for some reason Wurman is also trying to organize a benefit for African refugees. Very muddled. You Scratch My Back... - cathyottawa
That's showbiz kid.
This is one of those movies that has some good scenes, and some great moments with Pacino, but it just never gets off the ground plot wise.
Pacino is a Willy Loman type old dog, past his prime in a young business. They gave his character a southern accent and a goofy haircut that was distracting.
Kim Bassinger is miscast as an old flame of Pacino's that wants to get back together. Given the goofy hair and shlubby look they gave him, I didn't buy it for a minute.
Tea Leoni is the most interesting character as a drugged out actress - but it's almost like she walked in from another film.
It just never comes together, much like rotten tomatos says.Terrible - k__ierra
I rented this movie after seeing a preview. Obviously the preview made the movie look great. I could not wait to get this in my mailbox. I was unaware thal Al Pacino could make a bad movie, but alas apparently nothing is impossible!! This movie is prime for getting over your insomnia. Tea Leoni was not bad, but her part was short lived.
