Ned Kelly
Today's hottest stars Heath Ledger, Orlando Bloom, and Naomi Watts join Academy Award winner Goeffrey Rush in an "absolutely superb" (Jeffrey Lyons, NBC-TV) action-packed adventure. Ned Kelly is an epic story of one man's struggle against corrupt lawmen to fight the oppression of his people and avenge his family's name. In the process he becomes the most wanted man the world has ever known-and a legendary hero.

The epic story of one mans will to free his familys name from corupt cops, the box office movie of Ned Kelly still today lives in the hearts of the Australian people. The armour was displayed at the opening ceremony of the 2000 olympics. I would like to see the movie that was made with Mick Jaegear as Ned Kelly. I like to watch movies of the old times. Its a good watch and Heath Ledger does an awesome job, he was a great star and his acting will be missed.A pretty cool southern! - Opinheimer
Ned Kelly grew up in New South Wales during the Victorian era as part of a poor Irish farming family who were mistreated by the English (as was common at the time), and basically formed a gang who resorted to violence as a reaction, becoming both outlaws and folk heroes in the process. The film is a fairly decent take on this true story, though it does often drag and feel contrived in spots. Heath Ledger puts on a surprisingly sleepy performance with overly dramatic outbursts, and Orlando Bloom doesn't do much other than try to look pretty, which he seems to do in every movie he's in. Still, the movie is worth seeing once.~ A GREAT TELLING OF A TRUE TALE FROM DOWN-UNDER.~ 3 1/4 Stars - SqueakyChair
SNAPSHOT: Shades of the American Wild West in an Australian Film. As such the pace is slower and somehow, well, just different from the usual Hollywood fare. It is darkly lit in the more moody and desperate scenes, but it kind of grabs you and keeps you in it's less rambunctious unfolding than the average shoot'em-up western. This is a 3 STAR for me only because there is a lack of newer westerns made these days to rival it.
MORE EXTENSIVE THOUGHTS: Apparently, Ned Kelly is as famous in his own right as Jessie James and his ilk. Their stories are similar too, inasmuch as Ned was forced by circumstances into outlawing. I liked it. The films pace is rather quirky and the lighting is very dismal and realistic making for the right kind of depressing atmosphere required in some of the scenes. IF you crossed Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid with any Jessie James gang film and then toned them waaay down in scope and filmed them on a fraction of the budget with an Aussie slant then you'd pretty much have this film down. I found the viewing of the Special Effects added tremendously to my enjoyment of this moving -- there is interesting footage of the real Ned Kelly and his real trappings that are ensconced in a museum now etc.
