What starts out as a weekly anonymous tryst between a divorced man and a married woman turns into a searing portrait of loneliness and emotional need. Directed by Patrice Chereau Intimacy won the Golden Bear for the Best Film at the 2001 Berlin Film Festival where lead actress Kerry Fox also won Best Actress Award. Based on Hanif Kureishi's controversial novel, Intimacy was selected to play at the Sundance and New York Film Festivals.

Intimacy - it's what they're looking for - Bill3
This is an interesting film - although fairly flawed in its realization. The two main characters meet for casual sex once a week, but it is obvious from the desperate passion with which they couple that each is looking for something more than casual fun. Jay eventually becomes curious and tracks Claire down, getting more involved in her life - searching for the intimacy he is lacking in his own. Claire, on the other hand is searching for her own intimacy, but on a much different level. She's a mediocre actress who seems, in her meetings with Jay, to be striving for a more convincing performance, something more heartfelt, more intimate, than what she has done in her life and career.
What makes the film flawed in my opinion is the lack of background to the story. The viewer is left to gather the story line from the characters' conversations - and with the dialogue often obscured by the soundtrack or background noises - you can get lost. For instance we have no idea how Jay and Claire met, or even why Jay left his wife. Knowing these details might have made for a more easily followed story line.Not worth renting - Porkchop
This moview is probably not worth the money.....the quality of the filming is poor, the dialog, non-existent, the story - what story ? The ads suggest this to be an interesting, innovating movie, when actually, I think it's the work of someone who's hopeless, and perhaps burnt-out. Steer clear.Zzzzzzzzzzzz. - Iceghatti
I honestly gave this movie a chance, several to be exact. The first attempt I thought perhaps I was tired and missing the point.
The next attempts proved to me that I was not missing the point, there really wasn't one that I could glean.
The movie seemed to be a series of non-connected sex scenes, characters without depth, acting without believability.
Should you decide to watch this, I hope you are able to prove my rating wrong.
