GoodFellas (Special Edition)
When Martin Scorsese, one of the world's most skillful and respected directors, reunited with two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro in GoodFellas, the result was one of the most powerful films of the year. Based on the true-life best seller Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi and backed by a dynamic pop/rock oldies soundtrack, critics and filmgoers alike declared GoodFellas great. It was named 1990's best film by the New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics. And it earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Robert De Niro received wide recognition for his performance as veteran criminal Jimmy "The Gent" Conway. And as the volatile Tommy DeVito, Joe Pesci walked off with the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Academy Award nominee Lorraine Bracco, Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino also turned in electrifying performance. You have to see it to believe it-then watch again. GoodFellas explores the criminal life like no other movie.

Not only is this a terrific nail-biter about the Sicilian mob, it surpasses The Godfather in showing the way the mob operates. I found it even more horrifying than The Godfather. The killings were so cold blooded and blood flowed right from the opening sequence.
And the real kicker is that this is a true story! Hear the interview with Henry who is in witness protection after testifying against the mob members... a very brave thing to do. Witness protection ultimately broke down his marriage. An Epic Crime Saga - ABC99
What Goodfellas accomplishes that even the Godfather doesn't, is showing organized crime in operation. These are violent men operating a voilent and souless business. While the Godfather is a masterpiece it cheats in allowing the don to be the hero and avoiding showing people who's live are impaced by organized crime. If the Godfather is about managment, Goodfellas is about the front line. We see crime in operation and at times it is a bloody, horrific, and without loyalty or friendship.
The storytelling is flawless and the world it portrays seems familiar by the end. The characters are so well developed they seem authentic, like we are listening in on real conversations. Martin Scorsese was born to tell this story and it is impossible to overstate the energy he brings to the screen. This is a classic crime drama...maybe the greatest of its kind.Goodfella makes a goodflick - Doronik
Simply my favourite mob movie. The acting is great and the story moves nicely. Who can forget Pesci's
line "but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to f#@!#n' amuse you?" Or Liotta's pistol whipping scene. Certain movies work well with a narration and this is one of them.
