Matilda
Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.
Mara Wilson stars as Matilda, a super-smart little girl who's woefully misunderstood by her parents (Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman), her brother, and an evil school principal. But with the help of a brave best friend and a wonderful teacher, Matilda discovers she doesn't have to get mad to get even.

This is a great film to sit down with on a weekend and watch with the whole family. Matilda is essentially an outcast in her family, not wanted by her parents. She does not fit in to family lifestyle of watching TV all the time. She takes it upon herself to learn to read. Her parents send her to a school run by a very evil headmistress Miss Trunchbull (also seen as Aunt Marge in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) to avoid problems with the truant officer. The fun really gets rolling when Matilda uses her telekinetic abilities (developed when she was young and left to herself) against the Miss Trunchbull.Danny Devito's Family Film - Gregg
Based on a novel by Roald Dahl, Matilda (Mara Wilson) is the story of a very intelligent young girl who wants nothing more than to read and go to school. The problem is that her mean spirited parents (real life couple Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman) have all but ignored her needs and will only allow her pursue her dreams if it doesn't inconvenience their plans.
When Matilda is finally allowed to attend school it is a very suspect institution run by the cruel headmistress Miss Trunchbull (Pam Ferris). Though all is not as bad as it seems, in addition to making a number of friends she encounters a wonderful teacher Miss Honey (Embeth Davitz).
Mara Wilson winningly portrayed lovable and cute children in a handful of films over a short period of time in the mid 1990's. As her parents, Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman give rather broadly sketched performances as befits both the source material (a children's book/fairy tale) and the Director's (Danny Devito again) style as well. It is Embeth Davitz who gets the rather thankless job of playing Matilda's wonderful teacher but she does a good job with the role she is given.
The combination of Roald Dahl's storytelling skills and Danny Devito's somewhat unusual style make this a good if not great family movie. Both adults and children should be able to enjoy this well executed adaptation.uplifting, girl give laughs - movie_goer
