The Man From Colorado
A Man Forever Changed By The Brutality Of War
A judge teeters on the brink of insanity... a town on the edge of revolt. And only one man stands between them in this powerful western featuring two of Hollywood's greatest leading men. Glenn Ford delivers a mesmerizing performance as Owen Devereaux, a sadistic Civil War vet who continues to kill for the joy of it even after he becomes a judge. William Holden is outstanding as Del Stewart, Devereaux's marshal and ex-army pal who tries to restrain the judge's violent nature. When Devereaux's psychotic behavior forces the townspeople to take up arms against him, the former friends are pitted together against each other in a brutal conflict with fatal consequences. the suspense never falters in acclaimed director Henry Levin's tightly woven tale which delves into the devastating psychological effects of war.

A Very Different Role For Glenn Ford - bwod
A movie about a very mean man, disturbed, vindictive, and homicidal. A leader of men, who becomes a federally appointed judge and then misuses his powers to satisfy his twisted sense of justice. Glenn Ford stretches his acting chops to tackle this non-stereotypical role. He is surprisingly believable. William Holden is stoic as the guy who must bring his friend back down to earth. Filmed in Technicolor, "The Man From Colorado", is an above-average movie about the west. I give it one firm thumb up.Man from Colorado - MovieLover5
Glenn Ford and William Holden play two aspects of the law; one is honest and upright, while the other has become twisted and cruel. You know where the story is going early on, but it is still an entertaining film albeit with a predictable ending. (One humorous element though, is the colourful dresses worn by the leading female. Any photos I've seen of women in the mid to late 1860's would suggest black on black was the colour scheme of the period.)
