War Arrow
Jeff Chandler and Maureen O'Hara in an Action-Packed Sagebrush Classic
Two of Hollywood's top stars, Jeff Chandler and Maureen O'Hara, head up a superb cast in this action-packed sagebrush classic.
To quell a Kiowa Indian uprising in the American Southwest, Army Major Howell Brady (Chandler) is dispatched to a fort in Texas. There he meets the lovely Elaine Corwin (O'Hara), widow of a murdered cavalry scout. Thwarted at every turn by Colonel Jackson Meade (John McIntire), his rival for Elaine's affections, Brady recruits and trains Seminole warriors to help save the territory from rioting Kiowas in this gripping tale of love in the time of war.

"War Arrow" has an interesting story line. A military expert is sent to deal with the war against the Kiowa nation. He has an interest in guerilla warfare and in working with the defeated Seminole nation, mobilizing them against the Kiowa. The goal is complete extermination of the Kiowa. Along the way he has to deal with a renegade white officer, a Southerner (we're just post-Civil War) whose hatred for the US Army has led him to fight on the side of the Kiowa. This is all kind of interesting historically. The slaughter of 'Indians' is unabashed. Jeff Chandler, a handsome face from the 50's, does a decent job. Maureen O'Hara does what she always does - a fiery stunning Irish redhead with attitude. I saw this film when I was a kid. Interesting to go back half a century later and see what I didn't see then.
