The Closet (Le placard)
To protect his job, he's come out of the closet he never went into!
The always popular Gerard Depardieu (102 Dalmatians, Vatel) stars in a warmly engaging comedy that shows how one little white lie can change everything! A dull and lonely accountant working at a condom factory, Francois (Daniel Auteuil) meekly endures office jokes and backroom whispers that he's about to be fired...usually instigated by his loutish coworker Felix (Depardieu). But that all changes when a rumor about him spreads around the office! Much to his surprise, this funny falsehood becomes the catalyst that sends Francois' life on an unexpected and hilarious turn for the better! As this outrageous, critically acclaimed story unfolds, you'll laugh along with Francois as he keeps this improbable charade going in an inspired bid to save his job and transform his life!

Lame - BillBC
Sorry, other reviewers, I didn't laugh once, and I thought some of the social attitudes depicted in the film were lame and embarrassing. The worst was the attitude of the son, a sulky, selfish 17 year old. When he thought his dad was straight, he couldn't stand the guy, and avoided him, but as soon as he thought dad was gay, he found him fascinating. Since dad was exactly the same in every respect, this was incomprehensible, as well as making the kid look like a selfish jerk. Dad finally tells his ex-wife to get lost; he should have said the same to the kid. Totally cringe-inducing, as was most of the rest of the move...Funny, French style - BottomLine
Bottom line: This movie is enormously funny even with subtitles. Although not every frame of this film sparkles (4 stars instead of 5), there are no weak scenes, and there are several laugh-out-loud-even-if-you're-by-yourself moments. Daniel Auteuil plays his role of a shy, quiet accountant who discovers himself with rare warmth. His gradual awakening to his own value as a person comes across as completely genuine. The movie actually earns its sometimes sappy or silly plot-twists. Highly recommended!too good for words!! - pigtails_in_montreal
this movie touched about every viewpoint of how homosexuality affects people in western society. The movie was brilliant! Usually I am difficult to make laugh but this jaded viewer chuckled quite loudly at the tv screen. This is one movie from France that wins high points with me! It was nice to see that in France Gay pride parades are quite well represented with good cheer and loud fun in the streets. Yeyyy.....!!!!
