Happenstance
"Winning! A Mystical Love Story." -Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
What if... everything happened for a reason? What if... love came knocking at your door? What if... the slightest twist of fate changed your life? While riding the train to work, store clerk Irene (Audrey Tautou) learns from a fellow passenger that her horoscope predicts she'll meet "the love of her life" that day. After she leaves, the young man who had been sitting across from her reveals he shares the same birthday, and perhaps the same fate. Though separated once she exits the train, unrelated characters and events seemingly conspire to bring the two together again. If the moon hadn't been full, if it hadn't been raining, if she hadn't been fired, if the husband hadn't been stolen, if noses hadn't been broken, if the coffee maker hadn't been mistaken for a bomb... if all of these things and more didn't happen... they never would have met.
A coincidental romance about six complete strangers affected by chance encounters during the course of one event-filled day. Happenstance is a charming and clever story about the 'what if's' of life and love.

What if a Butterfly flew and Nobody Cared? - Mookie
Based on the interesting premise that everything effects everything else (Chaos theory says that a butterfly flapping its wings in Africa can cause a rainstorm in North America) this movie fails to add anything interesting to the premise. Lacking the smart writing and the stylized approach of Amelie this movie doesn't have the wit or clever writing that an idea like this depends on.Amelie Wannabe - meleekeek
This movie tries way too hard to follow in the footsteps of the amazing film Amelie, starring Audrey Tautou. There are moments of unique quirkiness, but the director just goes too far and these moments turn into absurdity. There are some likeable characters however and parts of the movie do manage to charm the viewer with unexpected synchronicities. Tautou's character really only leads and ends the film's premise - maybe if her talents were used to their full potential she could have saved the film!
