The Delta
The distance between two men is...
Lincoln Bloom, a gay 17-year-old who hides behind a heterosexual façade, meets Minh, a poor Vietnamese immigrant, and the two travel down the Mississippi in a cabin cruiser. Their romantic and playful trip seems to be running smoothly, but soon harsh realities interrupt their lives. A highly acclaimed film that offers a new look at the classic American road movie.

After watching the film and being a bit disappointed I played the film a second time listening to the commentary. Although the commentary explains many of the director's choices it adds to the overall disappointment because it underlines the high aspirations he had for the project (referencing the cream of the crop of European director's who influenced his style and certain shots) and the much lower level of success. (Although Mala Noche is listed on the zip page as a 'similar title' Gus Van Sant's film is 1000% times better than this one.)
Guess it shows that you can have a magnetic lead actor, interesting subject matter and all the film school technique imaginable, yet if you lack the royal jelly of talent things won't hold together. That's not to say the film is a waste of time. I was glad I watched it and I will remember this film for certain indelible scenes and Shayne Grey's natural performance as Lincoln a young man adrift in treacherous water full of metaphorical sharks
I recommend the critic review at the bottom of The Delta page, written by Brian Dillard. He sums the film up well, although he liked it more than I did.don't bother - 2commit
This is a film about spoiled, boring, disaffected youth, and will leave you feeling bored and disaffected. It lacks two essential ingredients: a comprehensive story arc and at least one character for whom the viewer can muster some sympathy or empathy. While the acting is not totally inept, the overall effect is disturbingly flat and emotionally uninvolved. Don’t even try to figure this one out…it’s not worth the effort.Avoid this film! - K+fro
This is an exceptionally bad film. I saw it at the Toronto film festival years ago and the audience which, normally, will always applaud at the end of a film did not utter a sound as they streamed to the exits.
The story is implausable, as is the pairing of the two protagonists in an unnecessarily bleak story. The ending will leave you shaking your head, if you make it that far.
