Ice Bound
The true story of Dr. Jerri Nielsen, a physician who discovered a lump in her breast during her time at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole on Antartica. Forced to administer a self-biopsy, she communicated via email with doctors in the United States and learned that the cancer was aggressive and rapid-growing.

Enjoyed the movie, but compared to the book it leaves something to be desired. We never really get to KNOW the characters - who are very likeable.
Susan Sarandon gives a wonderful performance as always - but we don't really know why she decided to go to the South Pole - and day to day life there is not made clear.
However anyone who has read the book would enjoy the movie very much.
It was refreshing though to see an movie that is interesting, true and not filled with bad language and have some kind of romance stuck in there for effect.Touching true story... Ms. Sarandon delivers - AvidOscarBee
As always, Susan Sarandon delivers a poignant performance of the only doctor sent to the South Pole in Antartica to assist a team of workers.
Based on a true story, Dr. Jerri Nielsen, having never visited the South Pole before, has to learn to adapt to the extreme cold elements, working with people who have a wide variety of rules and regulations to follow, and learning to nagivate her sense of direction when outside in a vast sea of white snow.
While getting dressed one morning and moisturizing her skin, she discovers a lump in her breast. Because she is the only doctor around, she is forced to administer a self-induced biopsy to determine if the cyst is cancerous.
With the assistance of her team, she communicates via sattelite with an oncologist to transmit the cells from the biopsy electronically. After a few attempts, they are successful and now the journey begins of how to proceed in getting her the treatment necessary or a flight home, which only comes every 2 months.
A truly heartwarming and engaging drama.
