Heavy
"Quietly earthshaking...eloquent, purposeful!" - Janet Maslin, The New York Times
Victor is the overweight, underappreciated cook at "Pete and Dolly's" - a roadside diner where the regulars are even staler than the coffee, and just as bitter. Callie the enchanting new waitress, is a breath of fresh air who breezes her way right into Victor's heart.
Heavy has the critics smitten, calling it "outrageously enchanting" and "altogether terrific." Pull up a seat at the counter... because at "Pete and Dolly's" diner, everything's special.

It has it's moments.... - DoubleDownAgain
A small little indie drama with a good cast. Some good moments but it drags in parts and the story meanders at times. It was one of Liv Tyler's first roles and I'd actually like to see more of her after seeing this, she was as good as anything else I've seen her in. The main reason to see it is for Pruitt Taylor Vince, you might not recognize the name but you would recognize the face. He was very good and held the movie together. But I could only recommend the film to those that enjoy quirky indie dramas.Not-So-Heavy - Bobbie
I was intrigued by the creative casting of Pruitt Taylor Vince, Live Tyler, Shelley Winters and Deborah Harry. While they all turn in solid (seriously downplayed) performances, the pace of this piece is akin to watching oil-based paint dry on a humid day. If you're expecting the diversity Mangold achieved with the cast in 'Cop Land' ...or the depth that advanced his reputation in 'Girl Interrupted' ...well, you're going to be disappointed. The writting had me frequently thinking "OK, I get the point, now can we please move on?" And the tempo of the direction handicaps a cast that is capable of so much more.
Note: I have no idea how 'Heavy' got the 'R' rating. Except for a few totally gratuitous 4-letter words, you could screen the version I saw in a grade school -- if they could stay awake to the end of the first reel.
