Happy Accidents
"Two Thumbs Up!" - Ebert & Roper and the Movies
Academy Award Winner Marisa Tomei (In the Bedroom) and Vincent D'Onofrio (Men In Black) star in this "touching love story" (Boxoffice) about a neurotic New Yorker, her highly eccentric boyfriend and their extraordinary connection. "Cleverly plotted [with] an abundance of heart" (The New York Times), this captivating romance will make you crazy... for love!
Ruby (Tomei) is a hopeless romantic who's always attracted to the wrong kind of guy until she meets Sam (D'Onofrio). He's sweet, sensitive, sincere... and from the year 2470. Despite - or maybe because of - his bizarre claims to have traveled back in time to save her, Ruby falls for Sam. And while common sense says he's crazy, her heart says he's the one.

This was a really good movie but I would not classify it as great by any means. I am not a fan of the lead actor - I think he overacts in every role he has ever played. Still - I feel he did a pretty nice job of keeping the audience guessing as to whether he really is from the future or if he is just nutso. I liked the way the ending leads the audience to the water ... but let's us jump in.Codependancy defined - Rowan
This movie does not use a chronological timeframe. It explores the relationship between Ruby and Sam in quite a random fashion that engages the viewer - if only to figure out what is happening.
Ruby is a codependent personality who only seems to want men she can help with their problems. Unfortunately, she is unable to find happiness with these guys. She finally meets a normal, nice guy, only to find he isn't so normal after all. Her process to determine whether or not this is something she can live with is an interesting one. Can she actually be happy if she accepts the guy's problems along with everything else?Happy Accidents - foleyartist
There are some movies you see one day and the next day there gone, while others remain with you and over the next few days, memories of them flood back. My memories of this movie are persistent and when they come to me, I smile.
Happy Accidents is a romantic comedy within which a very important, and cleverly woven, thread of time travel persists throughout. Did he travel back in time, or is he delusional? Will he be able to change the past? Will they live happily ever after?
Brad Anderson, who wrote directed and edited Happy Accidents, has crafted a movie that is well written, well directed and well acted. I must also add, the editing is also superb.
Ruby Weaver, (Marisa Tomei), is a somewhat neurotic but otherwise typical 30 something, who has a bad track record when it comes to relationships. Sam Deed, (Vincent D'Onofrio), is the would be time traveller who is infatuated with Ruby. I would like to give a special mention to Ruby's best friend Gretchen, (Nadia Dajani). She is simply wonderful.
To science fiction buffs I would like to say, the time travel scenario is well thought out and holds together quite nicely. To those of you who like character development and would rather eat glass than see anything with even a hint of science fiction I would like to say, don't let the time travel put you off. This movie has depth, character development, and a script that makes it very easy for you to buy into and love the characters.
When this movie ended and before the credits rolled I looked over to my wife and said, "whoever wrote this screen play is a genius". Need I say more.
