a great movie about real life!! - YPlovesmovies
I found this funny and heartwarming at the same time, but more than anything, this was VERY realistic and I liked it! it was rael concerns and issues aind doubts of friends, single people and (about to get) married people.
It's really refreshing to see a movie like this! and Katherine Keener honestly never disappoints! what an underrated great actress!Witty and Charming - Sandman2
Holofcener's first film is one that I'd been meaning to watch for a long time, and I wasn't disappointed. The writing is honest and clever, but in a way that doesn't really draw a lot of attention to itself; you can imagine a group of friends who do actually talk this way. Keener is sympathetic and endearingly funny. And "endearing" isn't a word I usually associate with Keener's performances, as fine as they always are. Holofcener is clear-eyed about her characters without condemnation. She gets a performance of unusual warmth out of Anne Heche, a performer I usually find annoyingly brittle. A quiet, small-scale film, but nicely observed. The Fallibility of Love in the Real World - FilmJunkie
This classic film from Nicole Holofcener ('Lovely and Amazing', 'Friends with Money') tells the story of two best friends (Catherine Keener and Anne Heche) who must survive men, cats and realities of getting older. This is such a great film because it offers a look, as all Holofcener's films do, at what women really think and feel and how they really behave. Yes sometimes we are emotional messes, sometimes we rely on booze or sex or cats or paranoia, but underneath we are all beautiful in our own way. Supporting performances by Liev Schrieber, Kevin Corrigan and Todd Field make this a film you have to see.
