The Movie Death Proof should have been. - Padre_Hypnos
HIghwaymen is yet another movie that shows Quentin Tarantino doesn't know what he's talking about. Much like QT's Grindhouse effort this movie follows the exploits of a serial killer who's choice of weapon happens to be a suped up car. Unlike Death Proof however Highwaymen doesn't rely on dialog that reminds the viewer of other car movies that were awesome.
While the car chases in this movie aren't quite as amazing as the final chase in Death Proof the sheer coolness of the killer car more than make up for it especially when you throw in the fact the Vigilante chasing the killer drives an equally cool car.
the strange exploitationesque plot handled in a fairly straight manner makes for an interesting experience especially if you are a fan of the weirdness you find in the 70's and early 80's horror flicks. the overall bleakness of the cinematography also adds to the grindhouse feel of this movie.Exceptionally Bad - Filmgal
I wasn't expecting Highwaymen to be good, I just wasn't expecting it to be this bad. I rented it because a scene was filmed in my hometown of Thorold, ON and was hoping that the film would be worthwhile, but other than watching it to point out local sites, it was a waste of a rental.
A ludicrious plot that involves a man held together by mechanical parts who enjoys causing car accidents and killing pedestrians. Enter Jim Caviezel who seeks revenge on the killer driver after his girlfriend is run down.
Not even a good kind of over-the-top film like the Grindhouse films, Highwaymen is just plain bad, especailly given the presence of Colm Feore and Jim Caviezel who routinely turn in good performances.
The film isn't even worth reviewing aside from giving you a warning to stay as far away as possible. Anyone who can manage to sit through it to it's predictable conclusion deserves a pat on the back. There is a reason this was a straight to DVD release- it deserves to be run over.Highwaymen - Chintzy
I found this movie quite predictable which makes a thriller flick pretty cheesie. You knew what was going to happen next which takes away from the element of surprise.
This would be a good movie for a slumber party with a room full of giddy girls to make it even the least bit scary.
However, the acting was not bad and the good guy's get revenge, as they always do.
