Murder On The Orient Express
The Who's Who In The Whodunnit!
Elegant, escapist entertainment at its stylishly European best. This Agatha Christie whodunnit boasts an incredible international cast of some of the most wonderfully eccentric characters ever created.
Ingrid Bergman won an Oscar for her role as the slightly dim-witted, Bible-quoting Swedish missionary. Albert Finney is the dapper detective, Hercule Poirot, for whom murder-solving is a precise, intellectual exercise. Poirot agrees to interview all aboard the famous train's Calais coach, hoping to find the killer of an American millionaire before the local police arrive. Packed with sparkling dialogue and visually rich in texture, this incomparable thriller received six Academy Award nominations.

Simply, the fact that I would've never guessed the ending, and second, for the performances...particularly on the part of Albert Finney. Great example of how talented actors can make such characters come alive. Takes a while to set up, but you don't even notice, because you get into it fast. Filled with everything a murder mystery should be, including clues, red herrings, and an unexpected ending.A Classic Gem - Ilania
Sydney Lumet created a classic. Not only did the movie engendered a romantic craving to take a trip on the Orient Express, he treated us to a collection of great artists. One could almost taste this delicious treat. In addition the music theme played by the Covent Garden Opera Orchestra added a fine touch to this amazing presentation. The only criticism I could think of is the manner in which Albert Finney acted the part of Hercule Poirot. It was a bit exaggerated, thus I gave it only 4 stars.I knew the ending before I rented it - Picker_of_Movies
There is an episode of Cheers where Frasier gets frustrated with the gang at cheers for some reason I don't recall at the moment and he reveals the ending to everyone. I was curious as to how a murder mystery could end that way so I rented it.
This movie is slow but with so many suspects it moves along quite quickly. Too quickly sometimes only because the performances are so strong. I would have liked to see more.
It wasn't until the closing credits that I realized Albert Finney played Perrot. He made the movie for me. Excellent performance.
And a quick nod to the cinematographer. I felt like I was right there on a cramped train car. I don't know what kind of cameras they used in 1974 but I imagine they were a lot bigger than today. It must have been quite a task to cram all those actors and crew into each scene.
