Tinto Brass' Never-Before-Seen Uncensored Director's Cut!
Berlin, 1939: At the dawn of World War II, power-mad SS Officer Wallenberg (Helmut Berger of The Damned) is ordered to find and train Germany's most beautiful women to work in the opulent brothel of Madam Kitty (Ingrid Thulin of Cries and Whispers). Here these Nazi nymphs will submit to the bizarre passions and carnal degradations of the Reich's highest-ranking men and women while Wallenberg secretly records their acts for blackmail. But when an innocent young prostitute (Teresa Ann Savoy of Caligula) uncovers the conspiracy her revenge will ignite a holocaust of pain, pleasure and shocking sexual perversion. The story is true. The depravity is real. The film is Salon Kitty.
John Steiner (Mannaja), Tina Aumont (Torso) and John Ireland (Red River) co-star in this infamous epic co-written and directed by Tinto Brass and featuring exquisite production design by Oscar winner Ken Adam (Barry Lyndon, Goldfinger). Released in America as the heavily censored Madam Kitty, this controversial shocker has been fully restored from the director's own personal vault print and features extended scenes of sexual atrocities now presented for the first time ever.

Salon Kitty is so outlandish, it could easily fall into the so-bad-it's-good niche for some viewers. There is more male full frontal nudity than you will ever again witness in a movie, not to mention all the exposed female parts. Salon Kitty is supposed to be based on a true story, but the concept is still not clear. Tell us again why devoted Nazi ladies have to work undercover (pardon the pun) as whores? Although the film does lag in the middle, viewers are generally kept busy with a hodgepodge of Cabaret-style musical numbers, melodramatic encounters between an SS officer and the prostitute/volunteer he is obsessed with, and decadent sex scenes (including an "audition" at a jail featuring a dwarf, an amputee and an overoverdeveloped gypsy). The copulation is badly simulated, however, and although there is lots of sex, the film is strangely unsexy.A tale of debauchery - Poet
This film would have been a lot better in a smaller dose. Lasting over two hours, it dragged on much too long for what it had to offer. Lots of pointless nudity, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but I could have done without those naked guys jumping on place.
This movie has the merit of pushing the envelope, which is something I can appreciate. But, overall, it just ended up being pretty boring. They Don't Make Them Like This Anymore - TheShamus
I became familiar with the work of director Tinto Brass while watching the X-Rated movie, "Caligula". Brass was not credited with that movie because Bob Guccione (the Penthouse owner) was not impressed with the larger female images Brass was fliming (he wanted the types of girls out of his magazine). Guccione ended up inserting his own film into that feature.
It was "Salon Kitty" which first brought Brass' "talents" to his attention. Although "Salon Kitty" is based on a true story, few films push the sexual envelope with semi-graphic sex scenes -- mixed, at times, with brutal violence (think of gutting a pig while men and women flurt and frolick with each other).
This type of movie is very unlikely to be made today -- the cost to make this kind of feature movie would be prohibitively expensive. Also, it would likely have problems making North American theatres without major editing (this version of the movie is uneditted).
There are plenty of beautifully disrobed women -- however, because they are backdropped with Nazi flags, Nazi soldiers, etc ... it's not exactly sexy. The dialogue is not good enough to be great -- and at over 2 hours long, it's just pretty boring.
No ... they don't make movies like this any longer ... and while there are some interesting elements, overall, we can understand why.
