Basic Instinct (Unrated)
Includes Hot Scenes The Director Was Forced To Cut!
Michael Douglas stars as Nick Curran, a tough but vulnerable detective. Sharon Stone co-stars as Catherine Tramell, a cold, calculating, and beautiful novelist with an insatiable sexual appetite. Catherine becomes a prime suspect when her boyfriend is brutally murdered -- a crime she had described in her latest novel. But would she be so obvious as to write about a crime she was going to commit? Or is she being set up by a jealous rival? Obsessed with cracking the case, Nick descends into San Francisco's forbidden underground where suspicions mount, bodies fall, and he finds within himself an instinct more basic than survival.

This film might not be made the same way today. The parts that were controversial in the movie then, are no longer, whereas the stereotypical and outdated interactions between men and women that weren't so controversial then are now not so permissable.
I found it too blatant. The sexuality of the film obscures the plot - the reason I watch a murder mystery. I rented it, not because I expected a good film, but out of interest. It was worth doing.Solid Murder Mystery With Good Acting - revsdd
There are twists and turns galore in this erotic thriller starring Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas that keep the viewer off balance and not really sure who the criminal is right up to the very end.
Douglas plays Nick Curran, a disgraced San Fransisco police detective who takes on the case of a man stabbed to death with an ice pick. Stone is Catharine Tramell, the chief suspect, a spoiled rich girl with a background in psychology who spends the movie toying with Curran's mind. There are good supporting performances from George Dzundza as Curran's partner Gus, and from Jean Tripplehorne as the police psychologist Dr. Beth Garner.
This movie of course became famous because of some steamy sexual content but - notoriety aside - it's built on much more than just controversy. It's a truly good murder mystery that keeps the viewer involved. It's truly fascinating to watch Curran's descent as he gets more enmeshed in the case (and more involved with Tramell) to the point where his life begins to parallel hers in many ways. Stone also shows a good range of acting skills, playing everything from the stone-cold (excuse the pun) manipulator to the emotionally fragile and vulnerable young girl in need of comfort.
This is certainly worth taking the time to watch.Love it! - HerbieW
This movie is a finally crafted puzzle. Sharon Stone is amazing as the Femme Fatale who weaves an intricate web to trap her pray. Somewhat too cerebral for the typical audience, but for the thinking man (and woman) it is wonderfully intricate. Besides Sharon Stone doesn't look bad naked!
