Amazing Series - The Ending Could have Been Stronger - Mookie
This is truly a great anime series and it deserves the cult following it has acquired. When the stories work they are clever, funny, and tightly written. The characters are all well thought out and unique.
Brain Scratch may be one of my favourite episodes of the series since it utilizes all the characters so well. The Two part ending manages to tug at your heart strings but in the end I found it unsatisfying. I never was drawn into Spike's backstory (his quest for Julia and hatred of Viscious) and this two part ending didn't make me care for it any more. I think the ending was a bit of a cop out and left me unsatisfied.
I compare this to Samurai Champloo where all the backstories worked and the resolution of the backstories in the final episodes was VERY satisfying.
Cowboy Bebop on the other hand always worked best (for me) when they ignored the character's backstory and just focused on the fun episodic stories like Brain Scratch.
