The Four Feathers
In the tradition of Braveheart and The English Patient comes this lavish screen epic that combines thrilling adventure, soaring romance and rousing battle sequences.
Heath Ledger stars as Harry Feversham, a British soldier with a golden future -- until he inexplicably resigns from his regiment. Harry is branded a coward, disowned by his family, his beautiful fiancée (Kate Hudson) and his best friend (Wes Bentley). Heartbroken and abandoned, Harry receives news that his regiment has been brutally attacked by Sudanese rebels. Suddenly Harry's course becomes clear and he sets out on an unforgettable journey of redemption - to regain his honor, recapture his love, and save the lives of his comrades.

I zipped this title from curiosity and because I have a morbid fascination with everything Heath Ledger has done, in an inexplicable need to try to understand why, why, why?? this talented and attractive young man was so sadly lost. If I had not seen the original film I might have enjoyed it more; or perhaps not. The casting was poorly done - Kate Hudson as a Victorian-era young British lady is ridiculous - her behaviour and deportment are more typical of a lower-class servant or bar-maid of that era. Our hero's transformation into a desert ruffian is not at all believable. The action and heroic sequences are exciting enough, but I would urge anyone to watch the 1939 version. It is far superior. Not bad, not good - vote4art
If you have nothing to do and this is on TV, by all means, watch it. It has beautiful scenery, tells a pretty story, but lacks in excitement. Some scenes are a little forced and a little too "done". Not bad, overall, to spend a rainy day with, and only if you have nothing better to do.~ HEATH LEDGER EPIC REMAKE CREDIBLE ~ solid 3 1/2 SagaStars ~ - SqueakyChair
SNAPSHOT: Powerful. Good action sequences. Exquisite performance combining macho and yet gentle perseverance in a character. Not as powerful as most classic epics. But a really decent movie better than the original with Beau Bridges.
MORE THOUGHTS: This is a large sprawling journey into the mind and character of a man seen as one thing, perceived as another and his attempts to ride the line between that doesn't compromise his principles in order to find redemption. It works well but it is a strange path that he takes. It is full of action, and can be viewed purely for that alone or it can be a thinking man's epic.
