A shocking display of propaganda - LaJoieDeVivre
This movie would have you believe that American Forces won the war in 21 days with only 100 casualties. It's been four years, and over 3000 soldiers dead. Rumsfeld is portrayed as a genius and his "Rumsfeld Doctrine" is lauded as a breakthrough. Little did they know he would resign in shame three years later. The movie makes repeated reference to the toppling of Saddam's 24-year regime of tyrrany and torture, making no mention of the fact that he was installed and supported throughout those years by the US and Britain to whom he sold cheap oil (Google search for the photo of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam in the 80's). Only when Saddam withheld the oil and kicked out the American and British oil companies did the West act. It wasn't to end tyranny and torture, but to secure the resource. This film would have you believe the benevolent soliers and the Administration that commands them went in and liberated Iraqis with minimal damage done. Hundreds of thousands of civilians died. This film is shameless self-congratulation about military technology and dominance, with no mention of the social implications of the use of that dominance. National geographic is no longer an international organization with a broad world-view. With this film they are reduced to American patriotic propaganda. It's a shame, they could have brought such a unique perspective to the war, but they are so one-sided in this film. A last note - the opinions of the soldiers the journalists travelled with are disgusting, not even showing remorse when they discover they have killed civilians. Oppose the war, and don't accept the messages in films like this one. The real heroes and the bravest Americans are the ones who are outraged by what's being done in their name by their own governments, and who actively oppose the war machine so eagerly engaged by their leaders to satisfy pesonal, financial, political, or economic interests.Propaganda Film,,, - tdurie
This movie is an embarrassing glorification of the American killing machine. I would have expected a much more impartial treatment of this topic by the National Geographic. With all the signs of a propaganda film, this movie seems more like it was produced by the US department of defence than journalists. This is especially apparent when one considers that there is pretty much zero mention or footage of US caused Iraqi deaths in the entire movie. This shocking if one takes into account that tens of thousands of Iraqi CIVILIANS have died in this fabricated American "War"/Oil Theft/Invasion. The word "kill" is virtually never used in the entire movie when referring to Iraqi forces. Instead the euphemism "destroy" is used, as if these people where merely machines or inanimate objects.
I would not recommend this movie to anyone, unless you have a special interest in hawkish propaganda films!
The only cool thing in the movie is a ten second clip about the use of trained dolphins by the U.S. military to locate underwater mines. Now you know about that clip, you don't need to rent the movie.
Wasted my time writing this review, so you don’t have to waste yours watching this “Documentary” Film
If you would like to see a real documentary about US “war” you should see the documentary “Afghan Massacre” which documents a US led genocide in Afghanistan filmed by independent British journalists.Good Documentary - yak-
This is a very well done Documentary with good footage of the war.The filming is done very well and captured the wars key moments.Problem with this documentary is it really seems like all the footage and storylines don't stray far from those on the nightly news and lacked depth that you would expect from a National Geographic documentary.Although war buffs will enjoy "21 Days to Baghdad"
