Little Buddha
Keanu Reeves and Bridget Fonda star in this motion picture spectacular from Academy Award-winning director Bernardo Bertolucci. In a big American city, a boy and his family (Fonda and Chris Isaak) discover a story about a prince in a land of miracles. But the miracle becomes real when Tibetan monks appear, searching for their leader's reincarnation - who they believe has been reborn in the boy. Suddenly, their worlds meet, leading the Americans on an extraordinary adventure!

I notice that most explicitly religious movies tend to be, besides their educational value, quite empty of the spirit of religion they attempt to portray. Little Buddha is no exception.
The movie tells a story of an American boy who, according to the Buddhist calculations, is the new incarnation of the great spiritual teacher. His father and he travel to Tibet to have him, and two other children, finally recognized to be the sure incarnations of Buddha. That's it. Oh yeah, parallel to this plot, the story of the first Buddha, played by ridiculously immature Keanu Reeves, is unfolded.
There are a few pieces of spiritual wisdom of Tibet in the movie. One of the examples of it comes out when the father of the American boy highlights that the story of Buddha is a myth. His listener - an old Buddhist monk - simply answers "myth is a great way to tell the truth", settling (hopefully once and for all) the nervous western search for the undisputable historicity of absolutely all religious stories.
But unfortunately this wonderful truth, along with some others, gets lost in bad acting and very unconvincing story. The movie simply does no justice to this wonderful religion so for those who, like me, want to know more of the eastern wisdom, there still remain only books. This is not a made for TV MOVIE!!!! - movie_goer
Little Buddha has very little credit to it's name, which is unfortunite because this film is powerful with it's Insightful, and enlighted view that contrast to the educational understanding of Buddist traditions and where it orginated. i recommend it highly to others with an open mind interested in the religion or practice.
Keanu was deep within his character, playing the young and transformed Buddha himself, great acting all around, i walked away with a better view into Buddhism.
