Clay Pigeons
Lester Long Never Forgets A Friend.
He has a firm handshake, a ready smile, and some strange ideas about friendship. His name is Lester Long and when the bodies start piling up he generously decides to share the blame. Now the F.B.I. Has got the whole town under observation, and Lester has put his new friend Clay over a barrel. The only way for Clay to set things straight is to beat one twisted individual at his own game of deceit and double-crossing.

It's easy to think "Blood Simple" when watching this movie's plot unfurl, but M. Emmet Walsh is no Vince Vaughn.
An obligatory small town, a requisite femme fatale, and a customarily unlucky flunky comprise this smart take on the tiny gradations of guilt. It starts off with Joaquin Phoenix (terse but passable) as Clay Birdwell, the wrong guy in the wrong place at the wrong time. But David Dobkin takes you to more wrong places and more wrong times, all at the curiously hilarious expense of Phoenix's poor Clay. And when Vince Vaughn shows up, decked in fringed jacket and multitudinous denim, it all breaks loose.
Wonderful comedic touches glancing a black-hearted narrative. As much fun as you can expect to have at a movie.Good Little Sleeper! - Jeefster
Solid acting, decent actors and a convoluted, but funny story line go together to make this quite an enjoyable little flick. You just gotta laugh at poor Joaquin's character as he gets trapped by Vince and all his troubles keep getting deeper and deeper. The initial suicide scene is so disturbingly funny/messed up that you wonder how it could get any worse.
And it does.
And that's what keeps you watching.
Like your humour black? Feel like punching Vince's face in for his overacting. Then get this, it won't do you no wrong, Vixen!Who the heck classified this as a comedy? - MrsYburi
This is a good mystery/suspense, but it certainly is not a comedy. Not even dark comedy. I could only find a mere snicker with Vince Vaughn's demented yet girlish laugh. Dear Zip - you may want to reconsider your reclassification on this one. Save some confusion for others.
