Kitchen Party
Kitchen Party follows a “day in the life” of a group of teenagers and their parents. With his parents away for the evening, Scott Seizes the rare opportunity to entertain his friends at an impromptu party that spins out of control in a blur of bedlam and bullets. Meanwhile, across town, their parents arrive at their own suburban soiree. As their evening events unwind, so do the pent-up tensions between the characters – teenagers and parents alike – leaving behind a trail of dented cars, bloodied noses, mussed carpet, and if nobody bothered to stop and notice, ruptured lives.

I could have been at a party like this in high school. I think we've probably all been to one. The anti-American teen movie, this bursts the bubble on the myth that all teen parties are wild and crazy and fun.
You know what? Most of them were pretty dull. This got that atmosphere just right. The awkward sitting around before anyone is drunk yet, with nothing much to talk about. A lot of times they were boring, and messed up stuff happened, like at this one.
I understand Ziply's frustration with this movie, because while most everything in it rings true, it was all a bit dull.
It starts out great. We have the juxtaposition of this kid's party, and an adult party the parents are attending, where they remember what high school was like.
Scott Speedman brings to this character the same ease of presence he brought to Felicity. I loved how he had a mysterious older brother living in the basement, blasting his tunes, that everyone was scared of. I loved the stoner boys down the street he bought dope off of. I loved the whole idea of the perfectly vacuumed carpet that he was terrified to walk on, or mess up in any way, lest his mother notice.
But this took directions in the second half that I didn't love, and, as I said, it ended up being a bit dull.kitchen party? - ziply
Hmmm. I certainly wouldn't warn people against watching this movie, but I also can't give it any more than 2 stars! There were certain scenes that took me back to a number of typical Canadian teenage parties but my absolute favourite thing was that Scott Speedman's parents are fanatical vacuumers and he ends up fretting constantly about how to fix the grain on the carpet! Hilarious...but it didn't save the movie!
