Bhaji on the Beach
A group of women of Indian descent take a trip together from their home in Birmingham, England to the beach resort of Blackpool. The women vary in ages from mid-teens to old, and initially have little in common. But the events of the day lead them to better mutual understanding and solidarity.

Not a cross over film - vinnie
I really loved Bend it Like Beckham so I thought I'd try this one by the same director. It's not a bad movie but I found I was a tad lost not speaking Hindi and all! ;) The little subtleties that were lost in translation likely would have garnered a higher score. Or maybe I just need have an obsessive need to know absolutely everything! Before Beckham - FilmJunkie
Before she directed 'Bend it Like Beckham', Gurinder Chadha made this film about a group of Indian women in England who travel to Blackpool for a day trip and encounter all kinds of crazy circumstances.
At times feminist and comedic, this film tackles big issues with grace and though there are no big names, it is worth your time.A decent movie - MovieLover
This is a decent enough movie.
But it's a sort of cross-over movie and I dislike those.
They can't make up their minds if they are serious or comedies.
This one is just way too dark for my taste, and then commits the crime of billing itself as a comedy.
It deals with very very serious issues like racism and domestic violence and narrow mindedness and prejudice and control and family interference and domination.
I'm not saying it doesn't deal with them well enough--too well at times and enough to make one sick to the stomach with the prejudice in this wretched world.
The acting is good and so is the direction.
But this is no comedy.
