Darby O'Gill is a charming tale of a man who has faith in the tale of the leprechauns, and how his young daughter is at an age where she is sought to be wed, much to her dislike, that is, until Michael McBride comes to town, where there is an immediate attraction between the two. Unknown to her, he is there to replace her father's job as the groundskeeper to their home, while he has no intention of kicking them out.
Upon accident, Darby discovers the land of the leprechauns, and upon trickery, captures King Brian, and uses him to gain back three wishes he once lost...
The movie is a great Disney live action film from 1959. It most notably stars a very young Sean Connery as Michael McBride. There really aren't a lot of songs in the movie, surprisingly, but the ones that are tend to be memorable and fit very well with the whole theme to the movie. The few special effects were good for the time and the movie itself can be watched and enjoyed by the young and old.The luck of the irish in a great "little" film - Radio_Jane
Leprechauns have been getting a pretty raw deal in the film world lately (Leprechaun 1-4?) So it was nice to stumble upon this disney gem. The little people are still their capricious and often inebriated selves, but they are not the stuff of horror films. There is alot of mysticism and Irish myth in this movie, but it is still easy to follow and a great movie for children and adults alike. And look at that young Sean Connery!!!Darby O'Gill And The Little People - movie_pro
A older movie but a good one. But the best parts of the movie feature the scenes with Sharpe and O'Dea. Some good songs sung by the main cast Timeless movie that will bring a smile to every audience member. A must see for disney fans. I give it 5 stars out of 5
