Candyman
From The Chilling Imagination Of Clive Barker
A children's ghost story comes to terrifying life in this gut-wrenching thriller about a graduate student, Helen, whose research into modern folklore summons the spirit of Candyman, a slave phantom with a hook hand who is said to haunt Chicago's notorious Cabrini-Green housing project. Helen arrogantly assumes Candyman can't really exist...until he appears, igniting a string of terrifying, tragic slayings. But the police don't believe in monsters, and they charge Helen with the grisly crimes. Only one person can set her free: Candyman.

From the other reviews, it appears that you either like it or really hate it; I liked it. I have seen this movie many, many times and still enjoy it mainly because it is very well made. The storyline is interesting and well developed with enough details to make it coherent which is certainly a plus over most horror movies made these days. The cast is good doing a fine acting job with a well written dialogue and interesting characters. The sets and locations are excellent, the soundtrack is one of the best I have heard and the camera work is appropriate. What really made this movie work for me is, as a matter of fact, the locations and the soundtrack. Even though the storyline holds well, I thought it was a bit on the odd side. There are a few death scenes here that are not overly explicit which might not sit well with some horror fans but it is certainly worth the watch.A decent film - Amadeus
The first time I saw "Candyman", three or four years ago, I was horrified. The psychological horror of the film really got to me. However, as with most horror films I never even get the slightest bit uncomfortable the second time I watch it. Don't get me wrong, though, "Candyman" is a good film. Much better than the pathetic Clive Barker-film "Hellraiser" (that film is really a laugh, a slimy skeleton isn't exactly the definition of 'scary' according to me. So okay, that film has its moments of sheer beauty [at least one scene] but scary… nah, don't think so). "Candyman" is without a doubt one of the best serious horror films I have ever seen -- I can't really count the "Scream"-trilogy since those films are as much comedy as horror. Definitely (almost) "up there" with films like "The Shining" (Kubrick-version) and "The Exorcist" -- they are all psychological horror films and those films are the only films that can scare me at least the first time I see them. "Halloween", "Hellraiser", "Friday the 13th"… those films only make me laugh. Anyway, "Candyman" is a good film. Recommended.Terrifying!!!!! - 0930tracey
It's a wonder I can even remember this movie. I spent the whole time with my hands in front of my face. It absolutely terrified me. And yet, whenever I want to have a good scare I always watch Candyman. The myth: Stand in front of a mirror and say "Candyman,Candyman,Candyman" and he will appear. Well, I'm sure after watching this movie at least half of us did that.(You know you did!)The ending is a bit tough to watch as Virginia Madsen's character grows deeper into Crazy Land. But all in all it is definately good for a scare on a rainy night.
