"A gritty, gut-wrenching account of rural America!" - Variety
Jessica Lange and Sam Shepard are Jewell and Gil Ivy. They work the land in America's heartland, on a farm that has bound their family together for generations. For Jewell and Gil, the land has always been their life. So when the government bureaucrats decide to take it all away, there's only one decision the family can make...the Ivys are staying.

Yes, Jessica Lange hasn't always delivered top notch, but here she is so convincing. And this film is a suspense human drama triumph with it's high wire strains of trying to keep your family together, save your family farm and fight the faceless political powerhouse which encases itself in the 'authority cover' which makes it seem like there's nothing you can do .... but we can do more than we think. Thanks Jessica Thanks SamFarmers vs. Reaganites - Goodard
Capturing the desperation of a family trying to save their farm and their relationships, this film is a triumphant condemnation of Reagan era capitalist greed. The experience of fending off rabid bankers hell-bent on destroying the family farm is masterfully portrayed by this film talented cast. A forgotten gem that deserves more attention. What a bum! - sarafina
OK, I understand why Jessica Lange would want to put out this Disney-Heartwarmer of a movie, but it's unbeleivable that this rugged, tough 10th generation farmgirl would let her drunken, abusive bum of a husband run their beloved farm and house into the ground. It would have been more noble to kick him out before he could ream on the kids than it was for her to go on this rebellious quest to save farm foreclosures across the Midwest. Save 2 hours of your life unless you REALLY like Wilfred Brimley.
