The Peace Hotel
Tormented by his wife's murder and guilt-ridden over his murderous career, a man known only as "The Killer" (Chow Yun-Fat) strives for repentance by founding a hotel that will provide protective sanctuary for anyone in need. When an unscrupulous beggar woman takes shelter in his hotel in an attempt to hide from violent gangsters, The Killer's true mettle is tested as he's challenged not only by a huge army, but also by his own belief system.

Good story with great characters, just poorly filmed. I was kind of expecting something better but none the less I did find it entertaining. Always enjoyable to watch Chow Yun-Fat in movies. I find him under rated and wish he had better movie parts to work with; he has it to be a good action actor. Check out replacement Killers, a much better movie for Chow Yun-Fat. Good for 2 boxes of popcorn out of 3.Blahhh - Jimmy_Jam
This will be my last venture into the genre that is usually labelled as Hong Kong action films, such as The Killer and Hard Boiled. Of course this is only my opinion and I know these films are unbelievably influential, but I cannot sit through them for some reason. The action is the best I have ever seen, no doubt; it makes you sweat it is so intense. However, when the film gets back to the plot that ties these action scenes together it is so melodramatic, corny, and fake that it hurts to watch. The attempt to add emotion to the story is just way over the top - from slow moving cameras, slow motion, horrible scores and some of the cheesiest dialogue on film. It is like the film is trying way to hard to bring about emotion in the viewer. If I am looking for violence and action there are many places to get it without having to sit through the overly melodramatic atmosphere that suffocates the film.
