My favourite Christmas movie - Benson
This movie is so absurdly bad that I can't stop watching it. It's one of those movies that you have to watch with your family and end up quoting every line in it.
The highlights include:
-Schwartzenegger's ridiculous accent contrasted with his family and neighbor's
-bombs and terrorist threats
-a working jetpak in a local Christmas parade
-Phil Hartman being hilarious
Watch this movie it's so much fun!No Christmas Spirit - Gregg
The story of a father (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who promises to and then neglects to buy the "must have toy" of the Christmas season for his son (Jake Lloyd of Phantom Menace) and his subsequent last minute frenzied attempts to find one.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has appeared in some very entertaining movies over his career but he has never really been much of an actor, he is much more a personality. His career has benefited for the most part through a combination of either fortuitous casting by the filmmakers or a good choices of roles on his part. He has been most successful in roles requiring limited range in films with a lot of action, although he had previously succeeded in a Comedy with "Twins". This though is one of the exceptions, either he is badly miscast or he simply cannot carry the part (although both is also a possibility). Also woefully miss-suited to his role is Sinbad, as another father and therefore rival of Arnold for the cherished toy.
It also quite possible that at least part of the fault (if not most of it) may lie with the script. The plot is so misdirected, and seemingly lacking in both genuine emotion and humor, that even a stellar cast might be hard pressed to make anything of this mess.
There are some talented and funny performers here, including Harvey Korman, Phil Hartman and Martin Mull but their talents are all wasted. This appears to be even more evidence that most of the blame may actually lie with the script.
The message of the film is obviously intended to redemptive (as with many Christmas movies), but the film makers have spent too long going so far down the wrong path that the redemptive turn seems way to forced and is also poorly executed.Turboman! - kav2001c
Pretty funny Christmas comedy, but has a weak ending
Arnold plays the bad dad who always dissapoints his son
So when his son says he wants a Turboman for Christmas, Arnold knows this is is last chance to get it right & will do *anything* to get the toy for his son
Also starring Sinbad
