Mr. Mom
"A role-reversal comedy [with] a talented comic cast!" - Blockbuster Entertainment Guide
Funnyman Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice) teams with Tootsie's Teri Garr in this "fresh and funny audience pleaser" (Boxoffice) that's all housework... and no pay! Jack and Caroline Butler (Keaton and Garr) are perfectly happy with their roles in life... until a layoff makes him a househusband and her a working wife! And while she wrangles with charts, graphs and an all-to-eager-to-be-wrangled boss, he has to contend with their hyper kids, a ravenous vacuum cleaner, an angry washing machine and an oversexed neighbor (Ann Jillian of TV's It's A Living)! From late nights in the boardroom to lonely nights in the bedroom, the biggest challenge for both Jack and Caroline is learning to trust one another with their reversed roles... which they'd better do quickly... before Mr. Mom becomes Mr. Single Mom!

Fabulous Retro Flick!!! LOVED Keaton!! - DDmoviebuff
Such a fabulous and awesome movie from the 80's!!I really miss flicks like these:P Soo much fun and you really get a lot of laughs watching Michal Keaton try to fit in with the other mom's lmao,VERY cute flick, and Terry Garr also rocks in this cute family comedy!!! Watch it if you haven't seen it yet!:PSurprisingly not outdated! - Port_Moresby
Auto engineer Michael Keaton has his life turned upside-down when he is laid off due to harsh economic times and his wife (Teri Garr) goes out and gets a job. As she becomes more successful at the advertising firm where she works, he becomes more and more of a disaster as a househusband until he is motivated into high gear and turns housekeeping into an art. Although it overdoes itself with some pretty silly sitcom situations, the film has a lot going for it: Keaton’s intelligent performance never goes for overindulgence and keeps the proceedings from ever becoming too ridiculous, while the film never pats itself too often on the back for reversing gender stereotypes (it’s amazing that it doesn’t feel more dated when you watch it now). Basically it boils down to your decision: you either prefer the idea of a man becoming a child’s primary caregiver being turned into goofy comedy, or you go back to Kramer Vs. Kramer and treat it as a valid application for sainthood. Ann Jillian has a delightful supporting turn as the horny divorcee in the neighbourhood whose eyes go green at the thought of a lonely man stuck at home all day.Still alot of fun after all these years... - cathyottawa
.. and not as outdated as it should be. Being a stay-at-home dad is still largely looked at as being against the norm.
Every under-appreciated stay-at-home mom wishes her husband could walk in her shoes for a week. It's fun to watch Micheal Keaton learn the ropes, and gain a new appreciation for what his wife had to deal with.
Roger Ebert hated this when it came out, finding it contrived and too sitcom-ish. But this isn't a film that's out to make profound statements about it's subject matter, it's just some harmless fun.
