King Arthur (Director's Cut)
Extended Unrated Version
Historians have thought for centuries that King Arthur was only a myth, but the legend was based on a real hero, torn between his private ambitions and his public sense of duty. A reluctant leader, Arthur (Clive Owen) wishes only to leave Britain and return to the peace and stability of Rome. Before he can, one final mission stands before him and his loyal Knights of the Round Table. Under the guidance of Merlin and with the beautiful, courageous Guinevere (Keira Knightley) by his side, Arthur will have to find the strength within himself to change the course of history.

The apparently true story of King Arthur. - moviemonger
Based on the supposed "true story" of a certain King Arthur who apparently inspired the legendary tale from the 15th century (just go with it), this story unfolds as the king and his knights have one more duty to fulfill for their Roman conquerors, which has to do with the impossible retrieval of a young boy before the nasty Saxons get a hold of him. Lots of swordplay, horses and magic (actually, no magic) ensues...Although paved with good intentions, it's a grim, at times interminable, journey hobbled by miscasting and a lack of conviction; the killjoy in King Arthur's court. I thought the film had some truly great battle scenes but the script and acting weren't exactly top notch. Although I like the guy, I think Clive Owen lacks a certain charisma, especially as Arthur. He delivers the odd clunky line without a single facial expression. Ray Winstone spends most of the film shouting "RUS!!" which I'm sure made sense at the time. Keira Knightley was pretty good as Guinevere and got to kick some ass, I do love kick ass ladies so she gets points for that. Overall, an entertaining Gladiator/LOTR type movie with some spectacular battles and music but few characters you'd actually care about.Loved it - Cybergades
I've always been a fan of the King Arthur movies and similar genre's such as Joan of Arc. This is certianly one of the better ones i've seen. It's a gripping story told in a new way while still sticking with enough of the important bits to make sure it didn't get to far out into left feild.
I would highly suggest this film to anyone who is a fan of either of the above mentioned genre's or even just Middle Ages movies in general. Check it out, You won't be disappointed.Demystified - Zoyamauz
"King Arthur" - Hmmm. Big Budget, Big Battles - a lot like "Braveheart" except a little less graphic and a slower story.
The nice landscapes and the beautiful musical score add quality to this picture. The Battle-scenes seem realistic enough - no superhuman martial arts techniques. The cinematography is well done and the acting is good. Then why only 3 stars?
I must say I was a little disappointed that the film made very few references to the myths surrounding Arthur's legendary character. It is true that other movies border on the fantasy genre but then again this is complete fiction too. In fact for anyone who knows their history, the claim of accuracy here, is really far fetched. While it is commendable that the production team tried to demystify the legends, I find they could have done a better job of it. In my opinion such films like "Troy" succeded a little better at this. A little more character development might have gone a long way.
If you enjoy battles, this one is for you. For those of you who love the story behind the battles - there is much left to be desired for. Rent "Kingdom of Heaven" instead.
