Solomon: The Bible
King Solomon's ascent -- from mama's boy to a sovereign famous for his wisdom and international coalitions -- is recounted in this two-part, made-for-TV movie. Part 1 depicts the rivalry between Solomon (Ben Cross) and his half-brother, while Part 2 explores the notion that Solomon and the Queen of Sheba (Vivica A. Fox) shared more than just a political partnership. The script interleaves background information to provide a historical framework.

Absorbing scripture in context - Virtual_Cinephile
Although I read and discuss texts with Christian friends, I find bible based educational quasi-documentaries to be helpful.
They bring a cultural and historical context to the mind in lumps which I fail to obtain from brief readings. A visual rather than purely textual perspective is also helpful.
The rise and fall of Solomon, the human being, is made clear for us. The treachery in the royal family and how he loses his way, and suffers spiritually teaches to how we might live.
In a society of excess where everything goes, we have choices to make. God's rules are not there to ruin our fun, but help us experience everything more fully in anticipation of an afterlife. We learn of Solomon's excesses and how we might better manager our lives by analogy.
This is why there is relevance in Old Testament teachings for us today.
