Laugh a Little - tmomt

You must give this movie a chance. The first few minutes have you belly-laughing if you are a sci-fi watcher. Once characters develop and the plot begins to gel you are truly drawn in. The special effects range from incredible to ludicrous. The vehicles and the costumes are varied and their impact on the film is significant. You are trully distracted with some of the more bizzare use of visuals. The basic plot is strong enough to give entertainment.

It doesn't matter what a movie starts off as, what matters is what it is when it is done. Battle may have been conceived as a Star Wars clone (no pun intented) but it wound up being a very interesting, fun, funny and different sci-fy adventure in its own right when it was finally completed. Richard Thomas is great as the innocent boy who gets thrown into danger, nell, his computer side-kick, the perfect counter in experience, the rest of the cast, be it George Pepard or busty Sybil Danning (Yowza!) are wonderful. Basically another version of the Magnificent seven, when "bad men" are recruited to defend a village against even badder me! This movie is loads of fun. Watch especially for Robert Vaughn, playing virtually the exact same role he did in Magnificent 7, simply oozing cool. A truly outstanding soundtrack by James Horner (he'd use neraly the same compositions for works on Star Trek 2 and 3 as well as Aliens later on) some really wonderful ships by then unknowns James Cameron, especially Nell who looks like a woman's torso, breats and all... In fact, just watch the film, it's wall to wall highlight! One of my favorites. Roger Corman's most expensive, and best, film ever. A real jem. Cheers.

This is one of the best Star Wars rip off flicks of that era. The special effects aren't very special, but what you do have is Sybil Danning showing off her two best talents, and the great Robert Vaughan stealing every scene he's in. Future Academy Award Winner and Canadian, James Cameron worked on some of the model and miniature FX in the film. He played a hand in designing that Freudian influenced spacecraft. Corman liked his work so much he let him direct Piranha 2 after this. But then fired him.
