Nora
In this highly respected biography, author James Joyce (Ewan McGregor) falls in love with the passionate and sexually outgoing Nora Barnacle (Susan Lynch). The two lovers leave Dublin for Italy, where they have two children and find limited happiness. After Joyce returns home, his old friends play on his jealous tendencies, which are put at bay only when Joyce and Nora begin an erotic correspondence.

Naughty Nora - lulu2
James Joyce was a sexual novice when he met Nora Barnacle in 1904 in Dublin. She became his mistress, his muse and the mother of his two children. They fled Dublin for Italy. The film follows the period when Joyce was writing The Dubliners, drinking to excess and being pathologically jealous of Nora. Joyce went on to be the best and most famous writer no one has ever read. Nora supported him all the way. Susan Lynch is especially fine as Nora. Read the Brenda Maddox biography... the film leaves too much out.Okay - dee1
I'm a hugh Ewan Mcgregor fan and I have to admit I was a little disapointed. His portrayl of James Joyce is that of a whinny, self-absorbent little man. There were a few occassions I felt like climbing through the tv and smacking him around. Susan Lynch however gave an amazing performance as Nora. This movie is only worth watching because of her.See It for Nora, Not James - Piknik
Interestingly, Ewan McGregor was a co-producer of this film, which suggests he had an invested interest in it. However, embodying the complexities of James Joyce was not one of his better performances. On the other hand, Susan Lynch, who plays his wife was excellent and it was a rare opportunity to see her in a leading role as more often she appears as a supporting actress. Luckily, she was on screen much more than he was!
