Mad Dog Morgan
Dennis Hopper plays the title character in this true story of a 19th-century Australian gold-digger who is pressed into a life of crime. A six-year stint in jail doesn't provide reform, but does introduce him to an Aboriginal partner-in-crime (David Gulpilil). The duo then proceed to terrorize the province of New South Wales with no lack of violence.

Finished Mad Dog Morgan. From what I've seen, or knew, came straight from Not Quite Hollywood i.e. very little. From that alone, I was under the impression it would be nothing more than Dennis Hopper running around with a faux-beard, up to his neck in booze, creating all sorts of shenanigans. There are moments of this. But, it's also a pretty somber flick. Not really campy at all...which is what I was fully expecting. Almost a Robin Hood-type tale. He gives very little to the poor (generally a pound per person, in case he needs to find them again to get it back). And is revered amongst the lower-class for his transgressions against authority.
And upon watching this, I almost forgot how good of an actor Hopper can be. Despite his questionable accent, and the variety of fake beards he sports during the flick, he shines like a God-damned diamond throughout. Quiet and loud moments alike, Hopper nails it.
So, it's one hell of a gritty western set in the Aussie outback. I know there are a few fans of the genre here...do watch it.
