Chelsea Walls
The Chelsea Hotel in New York City used to beplace to live for New York artists. Mark Twain, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix all passed through the hotel's halls, and even though the iron façade is now rusty, new dreamers still come every day, seeking inspiration from the ghosts of the past. This movie follows five stories in a single day at the famed hotel.

This is a worthwhile viewing experience. But, there
is a but, you should be warned that it it is a
somewhat bleak picture of life. It is close to
reality, but a reality strewn with problems. Life
in the big city can be alienating and that is what
transpires from the story. A few hours spent with
a group of people living in the same hotel. Lives
in parallel lines. The location is what holds the story together. We get a well-thought out critique
of the male artist in the form of a writer and his
love interests, incapacity to love. Nothing seems to
work out for people in this movie, but that is what sometimes happens in real life. Definitely
not an uplifting experience, but somewhat similar
to a David Lynch movie without the surrealism. The
photography is dynamic and Ethan Hawke is the
director. Recommended if you are not feeling too
depressed.Interesting movie... - Cricri7
I rented Chelsea walls because I have been to New York many times and you can't be a lover of the town without having been to the Chelsea hotel. It has a mystique for a lot of artists because famous ones have stayed there over the years, Dylan Thoman and Bob Dylan just to name a few, and because it is where Sid Vicious killed his girlfriend Nancy. It has evolved over the years, but there are still a couple of artists living there. The manager even accepted art in lieu of payment sometimes. This is the reason why the lobby is interesting to visit.
Even if it is not the best movie ever made, it kept my attention for the whole movie. It is on the dark side, you see Rosario Dawson reciting poetry, but you become attached to the characters and want to see them through. There are excellent actors in this small independent film, Vincent D'Onofrio and Kris Kristofferson are in it, and I can understand why they wanted to be part of this project. It also made me discover Jimmy Scott who is the singer who sings "Jealous guy". He has an incredible voice!
